ReachOut Charity Cup 2017 (Manchester)

We have new ReachOut Charity Cup Manchester Champions!!!

People were talking up the Champions league final played in Cardiff on Saturday but it had nothing on the ReachOut Charity Cup 2017. Not even the miserable Manchester weather could stop us and oh boy what drama we had. From the spectacular goals, amazing saves to the drama of a sudden death penalty shoot-out which ultimately decided who took the trophy home. The annual tournament, now in its 8th year, didn’t disappoint.

University of Manchester, The Challenge (Manchester & Lancashire), Zurich, Dean Trust Ardwick, ITC, EWA & Team ReachOut battled it out in the round robin group stage with the two top teams in each group progressing to the semi-finals.   There were some near misses, vital interceptions and impressive goals. All of the teams showed great character and sportsmanship throughout.

The Challenge (Lancashire) narrowly missed out in a tense semi-final with Dean Trust Ardwick which then pitted the hosts for the evening, Dean Trust, against ITC in the final. It was a close game and nothing could split the two teams over the course of the match with the final going all the way to penalties. After a few reprieves for either team after some stunning saves from both keepers, Dean Trust finally clinched the crucial winning penalty to take the cup in sudden death. Fingernails had gone at this point and everyone was cold from the rain. There was even shouts from the side lines of “hurry up I haven’t had my tea yet” as the penalties went on and on. But in the end we had worthy winners. Goalkeeper from the winning team Graham Mitchell said “It’s been the talk of the town in our school today but we’ve really enjoyed it and we look forward to next year and defending the cup”

ReachOut would like to thank everyone who came and braved the awful weather, from our amazing referees (Ray, Ellie and Hannah) to all our brilliant teams. Your fantastic support goes to helping many young people across the Greater Manchester area. Myself, Chloe & Keisha thank you so much and look forward to hosting you all again in 2018.

Remember we are looking for mentors to join our projects in the next academic year. Could this be the next goal you make?
